Learning English with news apps and outlets (Part 2) ニュースアプリで英語学習(その2)
Hello, everyone! I’m back with another blog post this week. Previously, I shared with you some smartphone news applications which are mostly for beginners. And as promised, I listed down a few more recommendations. Most of the ones below are suited better for intermediate to advanced learners. Scroll through to find out more!
みんな元気?前回のブログで初心者向けのスマホニュースアプリを紹介したでしょ、で、約束通り今回はさらにオススメのを引っさげてきたよ!中級から上級者向けのものになるけどね。さあ、チェックしてみて!
1. English News in Levels
News in Levels is a news learning application designed to improve English skills naturally and fast with short articles. What is wonderful about this app is that it comes in three difficulty levels, level 1 with 1000 words, level 2 with 2000 and level 3 with 3000. According to its creators, they only include
words which are vital for the level you are studying. This makes it simpler for students to remember words and practice with those. Through continued exposure and practice, learners will be able to understand the text’s original version which they also include in the selection. You can search news by different categories, most viewed or the recent ones. This app doesn’t come with Japanese subtitles so it might seem quite overwhelming for beginners. Still, I recommend beginning learners to check out level 1. This might just be a good challenge for you!

2. BBC News
The BBC News is the world’s oldest and largest broadcasting organization. The news articles published in this outlet are more elaborate and are written using more complex vocabulary making it more suitable for advanced learners. Articles can be chosen based on their categories-most recent headlines, popular articles, live broadcasting and video content.

4. New York Times
The New York Times (The NY Times) is a world-famous news outlet known for its award-winning journalism and skillful reporting and storytelling. Most of their articles are written using vocabulary of higher difficulty. This makes it suitable for more advanced learners of English. The application has such a minimalist interface making the articles look classy, simple and easy to read. It is as if you are reading the traditional print. It also includes a variety of categories to choose from, thus you can find articles that might tickle your fancy. They also curate stories which are based on your personal interest. Reading news articles this way is indeed such a delight!
